Dr.
K. S. Gaind
Dr.
Gaind is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto.
He is a consultant psychiatrist in psychoonology at Princess Margaret
Hospital (PMH), one of the top comprehensive cancer treatment and research
centres in the world.
Since
1999 he has been an Executive Member and Medical Practice & Tariff
Chair of the Ontario Medical Association Section on Psychiatry, and is
actively involved in health policy development and advocating for improved
delivery of psychiatric services. He has served as President of the Ontario
Psychiatric Association (OPA), is Chair of the Continuing Education Committee
of the OPA and is Chair of the Canadian Psychiatric Association Standing
Committee on Economics. He is a Past President of the Professional Association
of Internes and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO).
Dr.
Gaind lectures and teaches on psychooncology, cross-cultural issues, and
other psychiatric topics to residents, practicing physicians, community
health clinics, and lay audiences, and has spoken and written on public
health issues relevant to psychiatry at provincial and national forums
and in the media. In addition to his university and hospital practice,
he maintains a community based practice consulting to family physicians.
Dr. Gaind has received awards for teaching, medico-political advocacy
and influencing public health policy, including being awarded a Presidential
Commendation from the Canadian Psychiatric Association for significantly
advancing the practice of psychiatry in Ontario and the University of
Toronto Department of Psychiatry Henry Durost Award for Excellence in
Creative Professional Activity.
